Problem Statement
Freelancers and their clients often face significant challenges and inefficiencies in collaborating on projects, which include issues related to trust, money and understanding. These challenges can hinder productivity, result in financial disputes, and lead to a disjointed working experience. There is a need for a comprehensive and user-friendly platform that addresses these issues to enhance the freelance working environment.
Payment Security: Freelancers may not have a reliable and secure way to ensure they receive payment for their work, and clients may be concerned about releasing funds without guarantees of project completion. Project Management: Freelancers and clients often lack a centralized platform for managing tasks, milestones, and project progress, leading to disorganized collaboration. Integration with Productivity Tools: The use of multiple productivity tools can cause fragmentation and inefficiency in the working process, making it challenging to keep project assets and communications in one place. Collaboration Efficiency: Working with freelancers on projects may lack effective tools for group communication and seamless collaboration.
Objective
To create a digital platform that offers a range of features to streamline and improve the experience of freelancers and clients in areas such as project management, collaboration, payment processing, and integration with various productivity tools.
Easy Payment Solution (Escrow): Ensuring secure and reliable payment handling by acting as an escrow service. Collaboration Workspace: Providing a digital workspace for project management, communication, and collaboration, similar to popular tools like Trello or ClickUp. Integration with Productivity Tools: Offering seamless integration with tools like Figma, Microsoft Teams, Miro, and others to create a centralized working environment. Freelancer Discovery (Upcoming): Potentially helping clients find suitable freelancers for their projects. Collaborative Features: Allowing multiple freelancers to work together on a project and facilitating group conversations.
Insight
Audience: The primary audience includes freelancers and clients across various industries who seek a more efficient and secure way to collaborate on projects. The platform may also attract project managers, business owners, and companies looking to work with freelancers. Unique Selling Proposition (USP): The platform distinguishes itself by offering a combination of escrow services, seamless collaboration tools, and integration with widely-used productivity applications, providing a comprehensive solution for the freelance market. Competition: The project operates in a competitive landscape with other freelance platforms, project management tools, and collaboration software. It aims to stand out through its unique combination of features and user-friendly design. Project Scope: The project encompasses designing and developing the digital platform, ensuring user-friendliness, security, and robust functionality. It also involves marketing, user onboarding, and continuous improvement based on user feedback.
The project's ultimate goal is to create a user-centric platform that simplifies freelance work, fosters collaboration, and enhances the overall experience for both clients and freelancers. It addresses real-world challenges in the freelance industry while staying adaptable to changing user needs and market trends.

Research and Discovery
In this phase i went on to chat with some techies on payment structure and how they made payment also co-created a twitter space where they talked about payment issue with clients especially in North America. I also looked at product with similar objectives as we i aiming to do and study their existing solutions.
User Research: I surveyed 37 people and had an open-ended discussion with 5 others.
68% of participant freelance only
32% of participant also employ freelancers
Problem with Communications and Management
Problem with Payment Structure
Problem with Expectations (Time and Money)
88% of participant deal with national clients only
56% of participant also deal with international clients

New Discovery: Here are some general insight i gained from the research

  • New persona: The research helped us discover the 3rd persona** cause some teams would want to be able to manage their team and make payment... especially with start ups
  • Expectations: This can be from either side. Freelancers may underestimate the amount of time and effort required for a project, or clients may overestimate what a freelancer can do within a certain budget or timeframe. This can lead to frustration and disappointment on both sides.
Competitive Analysis: This is a unique product and can be divided into two different part.
